Book a professional learning session

New this year, Alberta Health Services is pleased to offer virtual professional learning on school health and wellness. We host interactive and engaging virtual sessions that can be adapted to suit the learning goals of the audience, including school authority leaders, school administrators, teachers, counsellors, and other school staff. 

For more information, check out the descriptions below. Our sessions are typically 60 minutes in length, but we can adjust to suit your needs. These learning opportunities are free of charge and led by a Health Promotion Facilitator. Please note that we prioritize sessions booked at a school authority level.

Session 1: The core ingredients: Exploring the role of nutrition in schools
The landscape of food provision and nutrition education in schools continues to evolve to align with public health measures. Using group discussions, we'll explore how schools are successfully adapting to support student nutrition and nutrition education. Join us to learn how the comprehensive school health framework boosts our understanding of ‘the core ingredients’ for life-long healthy eating.

Session 2: Active bodies, thriving brains: How movement fuels mental health
Movement is essential for healthy physical and mental development in children and youth. Join us to learn about physical activity as a tool to for emotional regulation, stress management, self-esteem, and problem-solving. We'll try out fun movement-based activities for your classroom, school or virtual learning environment, and inspire you with Alberta-based stories and examples.

Session 3: A whole school approach to positive mental health
Mental health is a foundation for learning, healthy development, and resilience. Promoting positive mental health is a whole school effort! Using practical examples, we'll examine what positive mental health looks like for students, teachers, and others in a school community. We'll share strategies and resources that build social emotional skills, foster resilience, and boost your confidence to talk about mental health at school.
